Two Suffolk Men Nabbed Passing Counterfeit Money, Police Say

Two of three men were caught allegedly attempting to pass counterfeit money at two Wilton stores, police said.

The incident took place around 5:23 p.m., Monday, July 29, when Wilton Police were called to the Gateway Shopping Plaza on Danbury Road for a report of three men attempting to pass counterfeit money at Michael's and Sally Beauty, said Wilton Police Lt. Robert Kluk.

Officers arrived on scene and detained two Long Island residents: Latrell Garrett, 19, of Wyandanch,  and Tyreese Spragg, 19, of Brentwood, Kluk said. A third suspect got away.

An investigation and video surveillance footage found that the men had allegedly used five counterfeit $20 bills to pay for items. Receipts for the products purchased matched the amount of money they had in their possession, Kluk said.

The merchandise was recovered from the men. 

Both were charged with larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, criminal attempt at larceny, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery. They are being held on $15,000 bail.

Both Garrett and Spragg were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, July 30.
